Guidelines and Screening Tools to Support the Mainstreaming of Climate Change

Develop a guidance manual, screening tools and training program for Task Mangers on mainstreaming climate change adaptation into the Bank’s project cycle.

Below is the first public deliverable from the project - a Climate Safeguard System booklet, developed in tandem with the screening tools. This has also been published on the African Development Bank website - where the French version is also available for download here.

Framework agreement with the IDB (April 2011 - April 2013)

Partnering with several organisations through a framework agreement to perform adaptation assignments in Latin America over a two year period.

The University of Cape Town

Advising Google.org on Climate Adaptation working with the Climate System Analysis Group (CSAG) of the University of Cape Town (UCT).  Project planning phase includes: 

• Narratives of prospective user experiences.
• Coordinated visit to Kenya in late November.
• Social impact modeling.
• Coordination and training in Kenya.

Kenya Climate Change Programme - Strengthening Adaptation and Resilience to Climate Change in Kenya (StARCK)

Design a programme up to £18.5 Million planned for implementation over 5 years from 2011 to 2016, by developing a project memorandum.

Produce a compendium on Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) that focuses on European practices in governance, particularly considering the flow of information from researchers to policy makers and how the decision making process is commonly managed. Access the report here.

Lead Expert for the International Dimensions of Climate Change

Evaluate international risks and implications of climate change impacts for the UK. Tom Downing leads the section on internal responses drawing upon work on risk assessments, perception and science and technology.

Review of Economic Impacts of Climate Change in Tanzania

Review of potential impacts of climate change on key sectors of the economy, stimulate government, private sector and civil society actions to develop and implement policies and programmes, provide an evidence base to inform and guide government’s position on adaptation and low carbon development, further alert public opinion and stimulate national debate on economic costs and benefits of a range of possible actions on adaptation and mitigation.

Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security Policy Research Programme

Research on climate adaptation pathways for agriculture with case studies in developing countries. Working with IIED and SEI, GCAP leads the methodological developments.
